Roofing materials from nappies?

Plans were unveiled today for the first recycling plant in Britain to handle disposable nappies.

The idea is to recover materials that can be used to make plastic components and the press stories on the subject suggested roof tiles as one example of such a product.

Well, we’re not too sure about the idea of plastic roof tiles, and I think we can be sure that Redland will be sticking to the more familiar concrete and clay for the moment.

But it’ll be worth keeping track of those nappies: the plant operator is suggesting that they will be developing five nappy recycling plants across the UK by 2015 and is confident that the discarded baby essentials will be turned into building products.
