Re-roofing your home is a big investment, so it’s worth taking the time to think about how to choose a good roofing company.
Here is our five point plan
-
Make sure the company is certified or a member of the Competent Roofer Scheme. To qualify for either of these, the contractor must have proved their technical competence and their financial stability. They will also abide by a comprehensive Code of Conduct.
-
Many people are mystified when they contact a contractor for a quote only to find they get no response. Always ask for three quotes, but make it clear to the contractors that they are one of three (not twenty).
-
Talk to the contractors shortlisted – take time to evaluate each one carefully. A good contractor will be able to provide you with detailed explanations for everything they suggest.
-
Ask for references: a local company should be able to give you references from other householders in your area.
-
Check the warranties. You need to make sure the contractor can provide a warranty on the workmanship and insolvency AND a guarantee on the whole roof system (not just the individual components of the roof).
