How to find a good roofing company?

Re-roofing your home is a big investment, so it’s worth taking the time to think about how to choose a good roofing company.

Here is our five point plan

1. Make sure the company is certified or a member of the Competent Roofer Scheme.  To qualify for either of these, the contractor must have proved their technical competence and their financial stability.  They will also abide by a comprehensive Code of Conduct.
2. Many people are mystified when they contact a contractor for a quote only to find they get no response.  Always ask for three quotes, but make it clear to the contractors that they are one of three (not twenty). 
3. Talk to the contractors shortlisted – take time to evaluate each one carefully.  A good contractor will be able to provide you with detailed explanations for everything they suggest.
4. Ask for references: a local company should be able to give you references from other householders in your area.
5. Check the warranties.  You need to make sure the contractor can provide a warranty on the workmanship and insolvency AND a guarantee on the whole roof system (not just the individual components of the roof).
